 Karen Smith is a 37-year-old African American, mother of five children and college student from the Bay Area. Over the past three years, she has been involved with organizations in Oakland providing outreach to low-income parents around issues involving education, welfare rights, and poverty. She is currently an Organizing Intern for LIFETIME, Low-Income Families Empowerment through Education, an organization dedicated to empowering low-income parents to pursue their goals for education, employment and economic security. |
